Google has released the first release of a new service called Hotpot, a system based on Google Places that aims to make more personalized local search results.
Underlying Hotpot there are three "ingredients" in:
- Google Places: the database of locations and businesses of Google.
- I luoghi che piacciono a te.
- I luoghi che piacciono ai tuoi amici.
Condividendo i tuoi pareri con gli amici e potendo vedere i loro, Google è in grado di fornirti le raccomandazioni e i consigli che possono soddisfare meglio i tuoi gusti personali.
Al momento Hotpot non è ancora disponibile in italiano, ma solamente nella versione in lingua inglese.
Hotpot non è però direttamente collegato agli altri servizi Google e per usarlo è necessario creare un nuovo profilo dedicato a questo servizio. Anche la lista di amici non è automaticamente caricata dalla lista dei propri contatti su Gmail o su Buzz.
Considering, however, that assessments and reviews are posted publicly visible, it is an advantage to enter profile information that are different from those normally used in Gmail.
Hotpot Google is certainly not the first service that is dedicated to providing recommendations on businesses that are located nearby. Its strength, however, is the integration with the local search service and access to all data already on Google Places.
But if Google were to acquire or form an alliance with Foursquare , Hotpot really could become the new benchmark for questo genere di servizi basati sulla geolocalizzazione.
